comic genres

A Comprehensive Guide to Different Comic Genres

Ah, comicsβ€”where art and storytelling dance the cha-cha while wrapped in superhero tights! For those of you who think comics are just for kids or are synonymous with superheroes, this blog is here to prove you wrong.

We’re here to educate you about various comic genres, each genre in detail, with its own unique flair, flavour, and fan base. Are you ready? Let’s dive right in!

Superhero Comics

Let’s start with the elephant in the room and get it out of the way β€” no, not Dumbo, but the superhero genre. Picture this: a dude decked in the tightest of spandex you anyone could possibly imagine, cape flapping in the wind, defying gravity, and ignoring all principles of aerodynamics. Though a bit out of touch with reality, superhero comics are the bread and butter of the comic world. Superman, Batman, Spider-Manβ€”you know the crew. These stories are often about good versus evil, moral dilemmas, and the occasional planet-saving escapade.

Manga

manga comic cartoons

Crossing the Pacific, let us now discuss manga. Manga is like the sophisticated cousin of Western comicsβ€”think the sushi equivalent to the Philli Hotdog. It comprises of action-packed shōnen like “Naruto” and “Dragon Ball,” to romantic shōjo like “Fruits Basket,” and the horror-filled pages of “Tokyo Ghoul.” Manga reads from right to left, which is a fantastic way to keep your brain agile.

Manga also has a knack for fitting the extraordinary into an otherwise mundane premise. Ever read about a high school girl who can transform into a giant robot? No? Try reading Manga then.

Science Fiction Comics

Science fiction comics take us on intergalactic adventures and futuristic escapades. They discuss profound themes like technology’s impact on society and its existential threats. If you want to explore the idea of a dystopian future, try “Judge Dredd” as he trolls the dystopian streets of Mega-City One. If you’re a sucker for romance in a Sci-Fi backdrop, look for “Saga.”

Remember that in space, no one can hear you geek out.

Fantasy Comics

While Sci-fi comics are all about confronting the hard realities of the future, fantasy comics are about escaping reality and running into a world of wizards, dragons, and enchanted forests. “Sandman,” a Neil Gaiman epic that intertwines myth and modernity, “Fables,” where fairy tale characters exist in the real world dealing with everyday problems, are two of the best in the genre.

Horror Comics

horror cartoons

Are you a fan of goosebumps creeping up all over your skin? From the classic “Tales from the Crypt” to the more recent “The Walking Dead,” horror comics play on our deepest fears and anxieties. Any by horror, we don’t just mean a haunting. These stories are often the dark and gruesome aspects of life constantly escalated in the flowing storyline, until it becomes overwhelming and unsettling.

But what most people don’t know is that horror comics also provide us with a controlled environment to confront our deepest fears. It is always better to be scared by a zombie on a page rather than in your kitchen in the middle of the night.

Slice of Life Comics

life comic cartoons

Not all heroes wear capes; some wear aprons, office suits, or heaven forbid, hazard suits. Slice of life comics focus on everyday experiences and emotions. Like the name suggests, it’s almost as if a small chunk of the everyday life of an average layman have been cut out and presented on comic panels. Check out “Persepolis” and “Fun Home” for personal narratives that resonate deeply with readers.

Corporate Comics

office cartoons

Most of our lives are predominated by our work hours and professional goals while the rest of our priorities are centred around it. Face it, of 24 hours, 8 hours, which is a significant 33% of our lives and 50% of the all the time we’re awake are spent at work. And the weird social dynamics, politics and a bunch of bored individuals cooped up in a place give plenty of material for humorous comics. Check out Norman & Ozi comics for a peak at how hilarious corporate comics have the potential to be.

Adventure Comics

Last, but not least, adventure comics are for those with a penchant for excitement. Believe it or not, but before it became a famous movie franchise, “Indiana Jones” was a comic book. That is the type of adventure we’re referring to.

Comics offer a wide canvas to artists who offer something for everyone. Whatever you might be into, there is an artist catering to your interest. With the onslaught of web comics, the canvas has officially become endless. It is time for you to step out of your comfort zone and explore new genres. And remember, in the world of comics, everyone is a hero in their own rightβ€”no cape required

The True Potential of the People in Cubicles: A Satire

While the Statue of Liberty stands tall in the open beside the Hudson River, there is a tendency for people to flock to the cubicles. It so seems that power, peace, and prosperity are all in the corporate cubicles and behind glass doors. Although people take pride in getting segregated in the cubicles, I feel it’s a novel way to isolate people’s stupidity, lest their brains get contaminated. But the bosses don’t understand this underlying intention. They take pride in being isolated in the cabins and cubicles. They feel their social prestige gets a boost if they are in a cubicle rather than in a common space. This is the subtle relationship between space and power that people most often misinterpret.

gossips at workplace

Then there are rooms with glass doors. These are the places reserved for even more incompetent people. These are not the people who are born smart. They are the kind of people who are born dumb, and these ninnies are made to believe the more intelligent you are, the more isolated you should be. They believe isolation breeds power.

appraisal memes web comics

They end up in isolated glass chambers away from the maddening crowd only to conserve their stupidity.  The paradox is, that these folks consider themselves very intelligent or rather the most intelligent of the lot. Some consider themselves the most intelligent on the planet and so they are unique as homo sapiens. They deny the fact that we are all stupid by nature and intelligence is just a faculty like that of the olfactory function. They ignore the fact that intelligence endowed by nature is to make us feel we are self-reliant in this world of natural stupidity.

Work Jokes for a workplace

These bunch of clowns feel they are so intelligent that they are self-sufficient, and their exceptional qualities need conservation. This vanity makes them more imbecile than they really are and for the conservation of Karma, they are imprisoned behind the glass doors. The irony is that they don’t realize this in their lifetime. On the contrary, the paradox is as they become more isolated, their pay cheques become fatter. This renders these folks a sense of complacency based on the perceived value of their talents. In reality, they get their share of the incompetence bonus as they seem to be more intelligent in this seemingly stupid world.

Navigating Professionalism with Humour in Corporate Culture

In the fast-paced world of corporate culture, professionalism is of utmost importance. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the role humour plays in fostering a positive work environment and driving productivity. It is imperative to strike the right balance between professionalism and humour in corporate culture.

Effective workplace humour has the power to break down barriers, foster camaraderie among colleagues, and relieve the stress of never-ending deadlines. However, when used inappropriately, it can also undermine professionalism and create tension among team members. Understanding the nuances of humour in corporate culture is essential for navigating its complexities effectively.

Role of Effective Workplace Humour

freedom at office on work comics

When used appropriately, humour can have a myriad of benefits for corporate culture and productivity. It can boost morale and team cohesion and significantly improve communication and collaboration. When struck at the right time, humorous comments can enhance the creative thinking ability of the employees and support the employees to work with innovative strategies. This leads to an overall increase in the employee engagement and employee satisfaction and reduces the stress of workload and prevents burnout.

By incorporating humour into the workplace in a thoughtful and strategic manner, organizations can create a more positive and inclusive environment where employees feel valued, supported, and motivated to do their best work.

Navigating Humour in Business: The Dos

For business humour best practices, understanding the boundaries of appropriateness is the key. Humour should never come at the expense of others or cross into territory that is offensive or inappropriate. Instead, it should be inclusive, light-hearted, and conducive to a positive work environment. Here are some of the Dos:

corporate gyan cartoons
  • Do β€˜Know Your Audience’: Understand the preferences and sensitivities of your colleagues before attempting to inject humour into the workplace. What may be funny to one person could be offensive to another.
  • Do β€˜Keep it Professional’: While humour can lighten the mood, it’s essential to always maintain a level of professionalism. Avoid jokes or comments that could be construed as unprofessional or inappropriate for the workplace.
  • Do β€˜Encourage Participation’: Create opportunities for team members to contribute their own humour and ideas. Encouraging participation fosters a sense of belonging and ownership within the team.

Navigating Humour in Business: The Don’ts

friday humble comics
  • Don’t β€˜Use Sarcasm or Negative Humour’: Sarcasm and negative humour can easily be misinterpreted and may create tension in the workplace. Focus on positive, uplifting humour that brings people together rather than driving them apart.
  • Don’t β€˜Overdo It’: Too much humour can be just as detrimental as too little. Use humour sparingly and strategically, rather than trying to be the office comedian at all times.
  • Don’t β€˜Single Out Individuals’: Avoid jokes or humour that targets specific individuals or groups. Workplace humour should be inclusive and respectful of everyone’s differences.

Corporate Humour Online: Navigating the Digital Landscape

AI web comics and cartoons

With the rise of remote work and digital communication tools, corporate humour has also found its place online. Platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom have become virtual water coolers where colleagues can share jokes, memes, and light-hearted banter. However, navigating corporate humour online comes with its own set of challenges which can be solved with the following steps:

  • Establish Guidelines: Set clear guidelines for acceptable behaviour and communication in digital channels. Encourage employees to use humour responsibly and respectfully, even in virtual settings.
  • Lead by Example: As a leader or manager, model the kind of humour you want to see in the workplace. Showcasing positive, inclusive humour sets the tone for the rest of the team.
  • Monitor Engagement: Keep an eye on online interactions to ensure that humour remains appropriate and respectful. Address any instances of inappropriate behaviour promptly and respectfully.
  • Encourage Feedback: Create a culture of open communication where employees feel comfortable providing feedback on the use of humour in digital channels. Soliciting feedback allows you to course-correct if necessary and ensures that everyone feels valued and heard.

Conclusion

Navigating professionalism with humour in corporate culture is a delicate balancing act. By adhering to business humour best practices, understanding the dos and don’ts of workplace humour, and effectively navigating the digital landscape, organizations can foster a positive and inclusive work environment where humour thrives. When used thoughtfully and strategically, humour can be a powerful tool for building strong teams, driving productivity, and enhancing overall employee satisfaction. So, strike the right balance, embrace the laughter, and watch your corporate culture flourish!

web comics and traditional comic cartoons

Pros and Cons of Web Comics vs Traditional Comics

Web comics are comics that are primarily published and distributed online, often through dedicated websites, platforms, or social media presence. Here are some differentiators between web comics and traditional comics, complete with pros and cons of both.

Online Comics

Pros:

  1. Distribution isn’t a problem: When it comes to comics of the digital variety, it is possible for an artist to send his comics out to his fans almost instantly, the second he is finished crafting them. So if you’re a fan eagerly waiting for the upcoming instalment of your favourite series, if you access your comics online, you have the benefit of skipping through the delay by logistics!
  2. Comparatively lower pricing: If you just want to pay for the comics and not the rent and electricity bills of your Comic Book store owner, then web comics are the option for you. Besides, discounts and bundle cutoff pricing are more frequent on online platforms than offline ones.
  3. Special features : Although most of us are completely satisfied with simply reading the trajectories of our favourite characters’ lives, wouldn’t it be nice to have decision making stakes with interactive comics? Web comics generally have a vast canvas to experiment with, when compared to Traditional comics. They can vary more in format, taking advantage of the digital medium to experiment with scrolling formats, animation, interactivity, or other features not possible in print
  4. Accessibility: Forgot your comic book at home? No problem. Whether you’re out on vacation, waiting in the subway to reach your destination or simply surviving a slow day at work, online comics are accessible from your very phone or computer, regardless of where you are, as long as you are connected to the internet.
  5. Community Interaction: All of us have read comics that leave us mind blown, euphoric and confused at the same time. These intense emotions would mean a lot more if they can be shared with fellow fanboys, experiencing the same rush of doubts and ideas as us. Web comics often foster more direct interaction between creators and their audience through comments sections, social media, forums, or Patreon-exclusive content.

Cons

  1. Internet Dependability: Although Web Comics are accessible 24/7 with most electronic devices like mobile phones, tablets, iPods etc., these electronic devices are practically useless when it comes to consuming online comics if you don’t have an active internet connection. So, if your internet connection is on hold due to delayed bill payments or lack of signal, you might not be able to find out what happens to your favourite characters. However, downloading comics when the internet connection is strong is the best solution to this problem.
  2. Subscription models: While traditional comics are typically monetized through sales of physical copies, web comics often rely on alternative revenue streams, such as advertising, merchandise sales, crowdfunding, or direct support from fans through platforms like Patreon. Some web comics are subscription based or label some content as β€œpremium,” but as a fan of a particular set of comics, do you really want to pay the premium price to access just one of your favourite comics?
  3. Too much feedback : To be completely honest, the age of the internet is the worst time for an artist to be alive. There are so many opinions, suggestions and downright hate comments on the internet that incorporating all of them in the comic would replace its original form with a patchwork of details.
  4. Screen fatigue: This one’s a no brainer. Since most of us already spend more than 8 hours of our days exposed to screens for work or other recreational purposes, also having to read your favourite comics on screens would be a nail on the coffin.
  5. Don’t have the same resale value as traditional comics: Whether you’re paying an online platform’s subscription fees to access comics or paying per comic, since its just a file on your computer, it deteriorates in value the very second it’s purchased, unlike traditional comics.

Traditional Comics

Pros

  1. Tactile experience – nostalgia: With physical comics, you can access a tactile experience that allows you to feel the paper, smell the ink, and appreciate the artwork in a much more detailed way. There is also a hint of nostalgia, reminding us of our childhood days when we’d go through our siblings’ comics on a warm summer afternoon.
  2. Original artistic expression: When artists only publish their comics on offline platforms with physical copies, there is an element of authenticity to it, as the author remains uninfluenced by unsolicited opinions.
  3. Collectability and Resale value : Rare or vintage comics are perceived as valuable items, potentially appreciating in value over time. So, they can be considered as investments on assets that have a great resale value.
  4. Support local businesses: It is courageous of owners of local businesses to still rely on offline sales of physical copies of comics in order to run their businesses when there are currently so many other competing businesses and platforms on the market. Buying physical copies of comics can encourage these small business owners to carry on!
  5. Not internet/electricity dependant: Whether you’re stranded in a desert or the Amazon forest with not a single bar of signal, as long as you have your comic books, you are good. The best part about reading comics without being dependent on electronic equipment is all the refreshing time you get away from screens!

Cons

  1. Limited availability: If you come from countries like India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, it is highly likely that you’ve never seen a comic store in your life before. Small businesses do not hold onto comic book stock since they are considered expensive by the locals and are sold at a very slow rate. This makes it very challenging for hardcore fans to get their hands on their favourite comics in time.
  2. They’re expensive: It is obvious that it takes more money to physically print a comic than to simply upload it on the internet. But here’s the thing, when you buy a comic book, you’re not just paying for the printing and paper, but are also paying for logistics and your shop owner’s revenue! If you’re counting your change often lately, physical copies are probably not for you at the moment.
  3. They’re bulky: Here’s the thing about physical copies of comics: they require physical storage space! This is a huge problem for readers with limited space.
  4. Physical copies are a limiting format: In today’s age of interactive comics and scrollable manga, the lack of interactive features or multimedia elements found in digital comics may be seen as a determent for some readers. For example, my spectacles wearing fellow fan cannot zoom in to the teeny tiny text in comic books, which directly eliminates traditional comics as an option for her.
  5. Distribution issues: Distribution is the process with which physical comic books reach you from the author through publishers and logistics companies. Distribution networks for traditional comics can be complex and inefficient, leading to delays, errors, and inconsistencies in the availability of comics at retail locations.
artificial intelligence at workplace

The Looming Menace of Artificial Intelligence

I hope God is watching the contemporary audacity of science. Yes, it’s the robots and the Artificial Intelligence. I am not at all happy with them. Why should I be? From the beginning of civilization, humans used their intelligence to reign over what they surveyed. This intelligence which humans think they have in plenty has been repeatedly used to betray their own race and even annihilate it. Now, we are injecting the same intelligence in raw and inert matter. Although I am discriminatively optimistic, I can’t be too cheerful about this robotic influence and artificial intelligence.

Albeit, it is called artificial intelligence, but it has already proved to be a sort of disruptive intelligence. Tasks like writing and thinking which were considered pursuits of the intellectual fraternity are now just a matter of clicks. If you ask the generative artificial intelligence questions that require emotional capabilities, it says it doesn’t have it like we do. But I doubt its integrity. It certainly can’t be relied on totally as the intelligence model is congruent with humans.  We cannot rely on it fully and believe all that it says. When human intelligence has given birth to deception, what is the guarantee that a contraption built on the same principles will not deceive?

Read the hilarious newsletter, “Should you be humorous at the workplace?

As Shakespeare, the greatest poet of all times said, β€œWhat a piece of work is man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties”. The same applies to the robots. Robots, the paragon of human creation! How human-like in nature! If that has to be true, you can’t call me paranoid. Humans have made sure that all the virtues and vices of the homo sapiens have been injected into the robots. They function as the humans do. They will soon connive against you as your enemies do. These robots and bots have already created a disturbing disruption in the workplace. They are the cause of separation of so many employees as the employees have proved to be dumber.

Read the newsletter, “Ace the Performance Appraisal Process and Praise the LordπŸ’°” and laugh aloud.

So, dear humans, be cautious! You will soon be dethroned from your positions as you have removed others from their jobs. Don’t forget, that intelligence is dynamic. It increases with time and an intelligence that has been created following your model is sure to dethrone you from your glory. These robots and bots are not just glorified calculators, they are your destiny, your karma. They are surely going to take revenge for all your past misdoings. That day you will have no weapons to combat. It’s because you have endowed them with the most precious of your faculty: Intelligence. That’s the day, you will become artificially stupid. You will no more be called the most intelligent being on the planet. Your creations with USB ports will then reign with more intelligence and you being comparatively stupid, have to be their victims.

Read this funny newsletter on appraisals, “Laughing Through Appraisals: Unveiling the Paradox of Performance Appraisals”

Did I make you more pensive? Are you worried whether the day is nearing when the robots will have good laughter on us, the humans? Don’t worry as that’s the biggest worry that humans can ever invite. Just laugh it out as all my arguments may have seemed realistic but they were intended to amuse you and make you laugh! So, laugh aloud and be happy but don’t forget to browse the new additions of office comics and cartoons on my web comics page. That will keep you healthy! That’s it for this week! Mastering Meme Marketing

Welcome to our blog, fellow content marketeers! If you’re reading this blog, you belong to quite an elite niche indeed. Why, you ask?

Because who even reads blogs, newspapers or any form of long content anymore? Ask GenZ and they will tell you that they gather their news, entertainment, and social fulfilment, all from memes!

But how can businesses penetrate the meme dimension while still keeping true to their marketing strategies? Most brands who try just get lost in the sea of internet absurdity.

micro management web comics

Fear not, fellow marketeers, we present to you the strategies that will help you wield the viral magic of memes like a pro.

Know Your Audience (And Their Memes)

Before diving into meme marketing, take a moment to understand your audience and do a thorough research on the kinds of memes they like. Some might like bold memes, and some like innocent ones that offend none. Each corner of the internet has its own meme ecosystem, with distinct humor and references.

Where is your target demographic? Are they on Reddit? TikTok? Twitter? Put yourself in their shoes and immerse yourself in their definition of meme culture. Remember, using outdated or irrelevant memes is a sure-fire way to become what they call in meme terms, an “epic fail.”

Stay Authentic, Stay Relevant

friday humble comics

Authenticity to your brand’s vision is non-negotiable when it comes to successful meme marketing. Don’t force it or try to be something you’re not. Your brand’s personality should shine through in your meme content. Find creative ways to incorporate your brand’s message in the meme. If you’re planning to introduce your product in the memes, remember, subtlety is key. Nobody likes a meme that feels like a desperate sales pitch. Make it as natural as you can manage. Stay relevant to current events and trends, but be mindful of sensitive topics (cough, like politics. Cough.) The last thing you want is a PR disaster disguised as a meme.

Embrace the Element of Surprise

appraisal memes web comics

The beauty of memes lies in their unpredictability. They thrive on absurdity and randomness. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and surprise your audience with unexpected content. Take risks, push boundaries, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Remember, when the audience takes a moment to register something, they recollect it faster and for a longer time. The internet loves nothing more than a meme that leaves them saying, “Wait, what just happened?”

Keep it Short and Snappy

In the fast-paced world of social media, attention spans are shorter than a Tiktok video. Keep your meme content short, sweet, and to the point. Memes that are too long or convoluted will lose their impact fast. There are memes that call for longer content (which is longer on purpose) and then there are memes that are templated. Don’t call for the former when it’s unnecessary.

Harness the Power of User-Generated Content

recruitment web comics

Why create memes yourself when you can let your audience do the work for you? Encourage user-generated content by hosting meme contests or challenges related to your brand. Not only does this increase engagement, but it also creates a sense of community around your brand. Just make sure to moderate the submissions to avoid any PR nightmares.

Don’t Be Afraid to Get Weird

promotional web comics

The internet is a strange and wonderful place, filled with all manner of weirdness. Embrace it. Don’t be afraid to get a little weird with your meme marketing. After all, the weirder, the better. Just make sure it aligns with your brand’s image and values. Remember, there’s a fine line between weird and just plain creepy.

Timing is Everything

Late For Work webcomics

In the world of memes, timing is everything. A trend missed is like missing the last train home.Β  Once the doors close in your face, it is an opportunity lost forever. Pay attention to current events, pop culture trends, and internet phenomena. Strike while the iron is hot and capitalize on the latest meme craze before it fizzles out. Remember, memes have a notoriously short shelf life, so act fast.

Engage with Your Audience

web comics in office and clown humor

Don’t just post memes and disappear into the digital ether. Engage with your audience. Respond to comments, join in on conversations, and be an active participant in meme culture. Being funny is really about the comment section while being the top comment is the real win. Show your audience that you’re more than just a faceless corporation trying to sell them stuff. You’re a fellow memer, just like them, down to the nitty-gritties of the comment section.

Measure, Analyse, Iterate

analyse the sales web comics

Like any marketing strategy, meme marketing requires constant iteration and optimization. Keep a close eye on your metrics and analyze what’s working (and what’s not). Use A/B testing to fine-tune your meme content and tailor it to your audience’s preferences. If your audience is not reacting well to a line of thought, change it. If your audience labels something prudish or scandalous, pay attention. Remember, the internet moves fast, so you need to move faster.

Have Fun With It

notice period web comics

At the end of the day, meme marketing is all about having fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Embrace the chaos and absurdity of internet culture. After all, laughter is the universal language of the internet. So go forth, fellow marketers, unleash the viral power of memes upon the world. Just remember to keep it funny, relevant, and above all, keep it memeingful.

Explore Humor, Web comics, and Corporate Memes

corporate memes

As you navigate meme marketing, consider incorporating humor, web comics, and corporate memes into your strategy. These formats can add variety to your content and help you connect with your audience on different levels. Web comics and corporate memes, in particular, can provide a serialized storytelling format that keeps your audience coming back for more, all while keeping your brand message front and center. So, experiment with these formats and see how they can complement your meme marketing strategy, adding another layer of engagement and creativity.

Remember, in the world of memes, there are no rulesβ€”only endless possibilities for creativity and connection. So, keep memeing, laughing, and above all, spreading the viral magic of memes far and wide. The internet is waiting, dear meme lords. Let’s make it legendary, one meme at a time.

pros and cons of workplace humor

Should you be humorous at the workplace?

Whether you realize it or not, the corporate world is full of humor. Right from the ways of its functioning, recruitment, and making policies, I see an underlying humor and comic art everywhere. In all aspects of a corporation’s functioning a deliberate attempt is made to serve the self-interests of the privileged which becomes a food for office humor. Amid this rampant injustice and incompetence, humor again can help.

hiding in the office from escape from the work

A tinge of humor and laughter can bring that light and optimism into the hearts of the employees in an environment where there is constant pressure on the nerves. What I mean to say is, that where you are in continuous compulsion to impress the cardinal elements of a human infrastructure made up of more dumb people than yourself, there will be a sense of suffering. As they say, humor comes from suffering, it can be the only way to vent your suppressed feelings in a seemingly civilized way. In short, this is corporate humor. Although I have deliberately beaten around the bush a little to drive my point home, I hope I was able to define corporate humor.

Laugh loud at Corporate Humor: The Food for Soul in Your Workplace

training web comics

Humor has many advantages. You can imbibe and communicate a sense of self-confidence through humor. It is like saying β€˜nothing matters’. Let me present a happy parallel. When everyone is drowning with the sudden gush of water, humor about the situation is like saying, β€˜Hey look, I can walk on water’. This makes you look like an apparent superhero improving your status to more than the mundane.

Humor in corporate doesn’t only make you laugh! It also says, we are in the same boat brother, and we shall overcome. This subtle underlying message injects a bit of optimism and a sense of comradery among your fellow pals. It’s like showing the ability to laugh and giggle while sitting on an anthill. It works as a signal of competence and sends a message to the dolts that β€˜See, I am unaffected.’ However, in reality, that may not be the case.

team outing and leadership comics

I have seen that humor can be used as a weapon to become an informal leader. People will become fond of you and look for your company. It is like a herd of cows without horns electing a leader cow with horns. Humor is that horn and if used intelligently can give you returns. If you are thinking, how to hone the skills of being humorous at work, you can always refer to some of our funny office web comics and office cartoons. We give you some below. You can explore for more as well and continue cracking jokes and being humorous, and make people laugh aloud ─ you will win!

The Cons

Mostly corporates work on a common principle – the most ineffective workers are systematically moved to the place where they can do the least damage: management. And most of the managers are aware of it! They know their strengths and weaknesses well and that’s why they are managers. It gives them an upper hand to play with others’ strengths and weaknesses. If you are wondering why I am telling you the top secret and the principle of corporate hierarchical distribution, hang on. There is a deep connection with the pitfalls of humor with this principle.

office humor and web comics

When incompetent people sit at the top of the hierarchy, they know what can topple them. They are always scared of that stimulus. Don’t ever let your sarcasm and cynicism hint at their weaknesses. If you do, you hit them below the belt and your jokes can backfire. So, be careful.

Rest is okay! That’s enough for today, till we meet again next week! Till then, keep laughing and make people laugh!

While not every office may have the exact same archetypes, there are certain universal traits and behaviours that tend to manifest across diverse workplaces.

Here are 7 archetypes that emerge in office environments:

  1. The Office Joker: This archetype is quick-witted and always armed with a repertoire of jokes and humorous remarks. Whether it’s during meetings, coffee breaks, or casual conversations, the Office Joker has a talent for injecting humour into various situations. Much like a jester in a medieval court, the Office Joker uses humour, wit, and playful pranks to alleviate tension, boost morale, and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for their colleagues.
  2. The Spreadsheet Sorcerer: The Spreadsheet Sorcerer is an archetype that humorously characterizes a coworker with an extraordinary command over spreadsheet software, turning data into magical works of art. He is a master of complex formulas. Whether it’s VLOOKUP, IF statements, or nested functions, they navigate the spreadsheet realm with ease, conjuring solutions to data-related challenges as if casting spells.
  3. The Inbox Juggler: Β This architype is CC’d in almost every mail sent out or within the office. They’re well-trained content supervisors, are experts at graphic design execution and dabble at coding and other technical pursuits too. In the chaotic circus of emails, there exists our Inbox Juggler, skilfully managing an avalanche of messages with a theatrical flair. When the inbox juggler finds extra time on his/her hands, they schedule mails to be sent out for the next quarter.
  4. The Office Gossip Guru: This is the one person from every office who singlehandedly originates all chaos, confusion, and misinformation. He/she is always the first person to jump in and provide their opinions without having a single clue about the context of the issue. Any news/information (excluding work-related information) that reaches them will be amplified and broadcasted to everyone at the office, including the janitor. Although this Gossip Guru causes fights and misinformation, they are the best person to kill time with.
  5. The Procrastination Picasso: “The Procrastination Picasso” will give all work on time. Just that he will tear apart the timeline provide crippling anxiety to everyone who is part of the workflow. This is an archetype that characterizes a coworker known for their exceptional ability to procrastinate and yet produce remarkable work under the pressure of deadlines.
  6. The Printer Poltergeist: You might be wondering what this sixth architype is doing amidst a list of 5 workplace architypes. That is because the printer poltergeist doesn’t qualify as your average coworker. The printer poltergeist is a supernatural entity who dedicates his existence to troublemaking and printer breakdowns. There is one that exists in every other office. Ever had papers clog the printer the reason for which even the hardware repair guy couldn’t explain? It is because the printer poltergeist from every office is always working hard to haunt printers around the world, causing breakdowns and malfunctions.

Ace the Performance Appraisal Process and Praise the LordπŸ’°

Hey corporate comrade! Nothing comes easy in life! If you have to ace the appraisal process that’s knocking on the door, you need to be strategic. You need to prove to your boss that you are the most intelligent and efficient worker around who’s been overlooked and treacherously underestimated. You need to make him or her feel that you have been subjugated among the bunch of laggards and idiots. Today, I will teach you the art of communicating this message and get a fair appraisal. So, sit tight!

The first counsel I have for you is to get yourself surrounded by laggards and poor performers. This will make it seem that you are the most intelligent and diligent of the lot. If you are asked to rate yourself on different parameters like punctuality, discipline, creativity, productivity, etc., rate yourself the highest. Even if you come at 11 a.m. and the office starts at 9 a.m., rate yourself five on five on punctuality. The simple reason is to woo your boss’ shame element. If you rate yourself the highest, it signifies you have high self-esteem. Even if your boss were to break it, how far can he or she go? If you continually come after 2 hours from the time the office starts, you rightfully deserve a score of β€˜zero’. If you still rate yourself five on five in punctuality on sheer guts, how little can your boss squeeze it to? If he has a little bit of shame in him, he may reduce it to three. There! You gain a score of three!

Opportunity Areas and the Development Trap

Your appraiser’s sole duty is to look for your lacuna and name them opportunity areas. He or she will tell you that you need to work on these areas but in fact, these are the excuses for your low salary. Your boss is trying to stitch your mouth with a glue under the pretext of development. Your boss may also recommend some training courses for you as if he is treating a patient with acute diarrhoea with intravenous fluids. Beware! Do not allow your boss to dissect your weaknesses by falling into this development trap! Do not allow him to create grounds for the justification of your low salary hike. Then what’s the way out? I will tell you but keep it a secret for your own interests.

The Remedy

If you at all have to be in the development trap and list your opportunity areas, identify aspects of self-development that don’t sound so malicious. Document opportunity areas that are benign and has nothing to do with performance. A few examples of opportunity areas to work on would make it clear.

β€œI need to be less appealing to colleagues so that they feel less competitive.”

β€œI need to control my sharp intellect in front of my less-gifted colleagues to foster teamwork.”

β€œI need to relax to avoid burnout.”

And the like…

A 360-degree solution for a 360-degree Performance Review

For people who do not know what a 360-degree performance review or appraisal looks like, let me give you a fairly unfair idea. All the employees of a department including bosses, subordinates, and colleagues sit in a circle as though they are playing the musical chair game.

They rate each other on different parameters that affect productivity and culture under the columns of everyone’s name and the average score is calculated. By the laws of nature, you score your friends more and your enemies less. You can comfortably call it a consortium of conspicuous conspiracy to squeeze your salary and make you look like an insignificant dwarf. The decree of your character and performance certificate comes out in about an hour where your weaknesses are highlighted, and your strengths are underrated. People who have gone through this abominable ordeal feel like a public molestation of their self-esteem.

Is there a way out?

Of course, there is! If there’s none, we will make one. Here’s my advice.

Make sure you are the last person in the circle to fill out the form. Remember, there is a fixed budget for the appraisal. So never rate your peers and coworkers liberally. The reason is every penny that goes to your coworker is not available for you in the budget. Be selfish and unscrupulous and hammer your coworkers and wink at them so that they are liberal in scoring you. This may sound a little selfish and mean but your coworkers may blow the raise away on education, healthcare, and commitments. You on the other hand may spend it on clothes and luxury items to strengthen the economy. So be wise! Look at the big picture while deciding how your colleagues performed and rate them accordingly.
